This research aimed at knowing responses of the freight passenger transportation consuments if train serves the RantauPrapat Dumai transportation system in combination with the existing bus service. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> For this reason a model of freight passenger transportation mode choice from Rantauprapat to Dumai was carried out. In this research, factors influencing the choice of transportation mode of passenger were identified when a new alternative transportation mode of Rantau Prapat Dumai is proposed. Following the identification, a questionnaire was designed and then was applied to conduct a survey based on the stated preference method. The results of survey from respondents were then collected and processed. Based on those data, a model of freight transportation mode choice for Rantau Prapat Dumai was developed with linear regression analysis. Later, sensitivity test of the model against service and trip attributes was conducted. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The result of interview survey using stated preference method showed that respondents prefered train as the mode for transporting passenger in Rantau Prapat Dumai section. In average, 13,91persen respondents said that they would certainly change to train, while 29,23percent would possibly choose train. In contrast, only 22,18percent would possibly choose the bus and 12,50 would certainly choose the bus. The remain (22,18percent) abstained. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The result of regression method analysis showed that the security factor indicated by the attribute of security passenger (KP) was the most significant factor affecting the passenger transportation, followed by the attribute of delivery time (WP), freight tariff (TA), level of service (TP), departure schedule (JK) and terminal/station location (LT). <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The model was applied for transportation network development with two scenarios, the first by railway track and the later by improving the Rantauprapat Dumai road section, which is repairing the Eastern Trans Sumatra improvement of roads Rantauprapat Dumai. For the first scenario, development of railway track between Rantauprapat Dumai of the year 2010 leads to changes of passenger transportation modes, from bus to railway as much as 399.598 person . While for the later scenario, by repairing move across road sumatra as an enhancement of Rantau Prapat Dumai road section, the proportion of user for each mode choice of railway will be 321.464 person, to railway select and 250.944 person for bus select. text
