EVALUATING THE VALUE OF INFORMATION SYSTEM IN PT JATIDIRI TRANS AS A FREIGHT FORWARDING COMPANY IN JAKARTA

The Covid-19 pandemic caused restrictions on worldwide trade to reduce the risk of virus spread. Trade restrictions impacted the international freight forwarding industry in Indonesia to experience a decline in performance as much as 50% since March 2020. The pandemic also accustoms people to limit physical interactions with the use of technology. Hence, to adapt with the current, the acceleration of exchanging information and the development of technology play an important role in saving the freight forwarding industry. Therefore, companies need to evaluate their information systems in order to adapt with the current technology era. The evaluation of information systems aims to find out the value or impact given to the company in terms of efficiency and effectiveness, and to figure out what aspects need to be developed in the information system. Hence, this study was conducted to evaluate the value of information systems (IS) on the efficiency and effectiveness of a freight forwarding company in Jakarta, named PT Jatidiri Trans, based on the IS evaluation literature framework by Smithson and Hirschheim (1998). In Smithson and Hirschheim (1998) IS literature framework, there are 3 IS evaluation zones; efficiency zone, effectiveness zone, and understanding zone. This study evaluates the efficiency zone by conducting a total quality management to find out which operational activity that needs IS involvement to enhance efficiency. For the effectiveness zone, this study evaluates IS using 2 methods, namely the DeLone and McLean IS Success Model (D&M) and Gap Analysis. D&M evaluates IS performance with 6 interrelated aspects; System Quality, Information Quality, Service Quality, Use, User Satisfaction, and Net Impact from the user's perspective. And gap analysis is used to find out the IS effectiveness for the company based on the perspective of the BOD. For understanding zones, this study recommends PT Jatidiri Trans to conduct IS evaluation periodically by considering a Content, Context, Process (CCP) framework that includes the “What”, “Why”, “Who”, “How”, and “When” to support the improvement of IS to enhance competitive advantage. Based on the analysis, the system does provide efficiency in creating fundamental reports and provide effectiveness in doing the daily operational activities but still cannot provide a competitive advantage in this technology era, which will be discussed in this study
