EFFECT OF PGPR AND GOAT MANURE DOSAGE ON BIOMASS YIELD AND ROSMARINIC ACID LEVELS OF CAT WHISKERS PLANT (ORTHOSIPHON ARISTATUS B. MIQ)

Cat whiskers (Orthosiphon aristatus B. Miq) is a medicinal plant which contains various metabolites that act as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory, including rosmarinic acid. Domestic dry leaf market demand of Cat whiskers was 20-40 tons and overseas 141-180 tons in the period 1990-2005, while produ...

Domestic dry leaf market demand of Cat whiskers was 20-40 tons and overseas 141-180 tons in the period 1990-2005, while production from 2013 to 2017 decreased from 116 tons to 56 tons. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the production of cat whiskers biomass, one of solutions which can be used is through engineering growth media using organic and microbial fertilizers. Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) is a root bacteria that can stimulate plant growth. The addition of organic matter such as goat manure can improve the physical, chemical, and biological quality of the soil. This study aims to determine the optimal combination of PGPR – Goat Manure for the biomass and levels of rosmarinic acid of cat whiskers. The study was conducted using a 2-factor randomized design (RAK) with 12 treatments and 3 repetitions on cultivated land in the Tanjungsari area and analysis of the results was carried out in the SITH laboratory from October 2020 to March 2021. Based on the results of the study, the PGPR dose 0 ml/L (p1) and the dose of goat manure 344.8 g/plant (o4) were the optimal treatment for the yield of cat whiskers biomass. The dose of PGPR 3 ml/L (p2) and the dose of goat manure was 344.8 g/plant (o2) as the optimal treatment for rosmarinic acid levels. text
