COMPARISON OF MICROSTRUCTURE AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES CHARACTERISTICS OF SEVERE PLASTIC DEFORMATION AND THERMOMECHANICAL PROCESS ON HADFIELD STEEL

Hadfield steels are usually hardened through an explosive hardening process. However, this process is relatively expensive, requires a large area, and has potential security problems. Therefore, it is necessary to study alternatives to this process. In this research, the study of the process of s...

However, this process is relatively expensive, requires a large area, and has potential security problems. Therefore, it is necessary to study alternatives to this process. In this research, the study of the process of severe plastic deformation is carried out through secondary data and the study of the thermomechanical treatment process is carried out experimentally and then this two processes were compared A literature study is conducted to obtain secondary data on the effect of the severe plastic deformation process and its parameters on the microstructure, hardness, and ductility. From the study of secondary data, it is known that the severe plastic deformation process will produce slip bands, dislocations, and twinning in the microstructure so that the hardness increases and the ductility decreases. Experiments were carried out to obtain experimental data from the effect of the thermomechanical treatment process on the microstructure and hardness. From the experiment, it is known that the experimental thermomechanical treatment process can result in plastic deformation with little recovery so that there is still a slip band in the microstructure which increases hardness. From the comparison of the two processes, it is known that the severe plastic deformation process can produce a higher density of slip band so that the hardness is higher than the experimental thermomechanical treatment with the same % reduction. This is due to the different types of loading of this two processes. text
