Description
Summary:Humans are social creatures who need interaction. This interaction can be done anywhere, including in public spaces. Public space can accommodate the interaction of people from various classes. Unfortunately, in Bekasi City the quantity and quality of public space is still very low. Its citizens tend to run to Jakarta to enjoy public spaces. The government has also tried to increase public space through its programs. In fact, there is a river that extends along the city. The river is named Kali Bekasi, and can be a great potential for the creation of public spaces that are actively used by the citizen. So, this research aims to provide convivial public space for the Bekasi citizen from various elements in their activities and interact freely while supporting the government in efforts to increase the quantity and quality of public space through the activation of the Bekasi River side. Data was collected through observation and literature study. Observations were made to directly observe the context of users and activities in public spaces in Bekasi. In this case, the observations were done in Alun-alun Bekasi. From the study, it was revealed that the dominant behaviour of Bekasi residents were culinary activities and socializing. Meanwhile, literature studies were conducted to enrich information and were divided into two types, namely those that add insights and those that directly assist in making criteria. The literatures were then analysed to finally create convivial public space criteria. There are seven criterias, namely diversity, visual pleasure, identity, active stimulation, access and connectivity, social engagement, and environmental comfort. These criterias were then crossed with issues until it is finally concluded that food walk is the typology. The study was complemented by precedent studies that has similar typology and character. Then, alternative designs were made until one alternative is selected to be developed into a complete design. The design results show a multi-massing design that is permeable and river-oriented so that it can maximize the potential of the river.
