Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion (VARI) manufacturing technique has great potential in making sandwich composite using skin made of fibre reinforced plastic. Literature review on manufacturing sandwich composite will be conducted in this study. This study will cover the advantages and disadvantages of VARI, its process parameters and the effect on infusion duration, and the characteristic of sandwich composite produced. Manufacturing sandwich composites using VARI offers low production cost, high mechanical properties of skin, fast production cycle, and various composite geometry. However, the usage of VARI is limited to skin made of fibre reinforced plastic and solid core without cavity. Infusion duration in making sandwich composite using VARI can be accelerated using low viscosity resin, high permeable skin and distribution media, the usage of perforated core and linear inlet that is placed in the middle of the preform. Sandwich composite made of VARI will have physical and mechanical properties that are affected by the type of core used, such as perforated core and grooved core. Sandwich composite made of VARI will also has different thickness between the inlet and outlet side. text
