NUMERICAL MODELING FOR DETERMINATION OF THE EFFECT OF STOPE HEIGHT ON INDUCED STRESS AROUND THE STOPE IN OPEN STOPING MINING METHOD

The open stop mining method requires a space in the selected mining area and used for the extraction process, as well as temporary storage of ore which is commonly referred to as a stope. In the excavation of the mine, there is the potential of rockburst. Rockburst is a condition of the rock explo...

In the excavation of the mine, there is the potential of rockburst. Rockburst is a condition of the rock explode as a result of the sudden release of energy under the effect of high stresses around the opening. This study will analyze the effect of excavation stages on the induced stress around the stope. The stope is modeled numerically using software with dimensions of 5 m wide and 30 m high which will then be excavated in mining stages of 3 m, 5 m, 7.5 m, 10 m, 15 m and 30 m. What is observed is the value of sigma 1, volumetric strain and maximum shear strain on the roof of the stop for each excavation stage. From this data, a curve will be made where the area above the curve will show the Energy Release Rate (ERR) value or the energy released by rocks. The results of this study indicate the value of Energy Release Rate (ERR) will decrease along with the increasing number of excavation stages. By carrying out the mining stage, the energy released can be reduced so the potential for rockburst will also be reduced. text
