Description
Summary:About 70 to 80% of the citrus cultivated in Indonesia are siam garut oranges. The postharvest process of siam garut oranges is still done conventionally so that the quality and quantity of oranges have not been able to compete with imported oranges. This study aims to determine the effect of ethepon concentration accompanied by blue LED light irradiation in the degreening process of siam garut orange (Citrus nobilis) and determine the best treatment in the degreening process of siam garut orange (Citrus nobilis). The degreening process with ethepon was carried out for 3 minutes and then irradiated with blue LED light for 10 hours and stored for 14 days in styrofoam. This research method uses a Randomized Block Design (RAK) with one factor, the concentration of ethepon which consists of three levels, namely 0 ppm, 240 ppm, and 480 ppm. The data obtained will be analyzed using one-way ANOVA and further test with Duncan Multiple Range Test at 5% level. The results showed that the concentration of ethepon accompanied by blue LED light irradiation had no effect on the degreening process of siam garut orange (Citrus nobilis) as indicated by the results of the Citrus Color Index (CCI) ANOVA test, color score, °Hue, a* value, b* value, and L value. The best treatment in the degreening process of siam garut orange (Citrus nobilis) was the treatment with 0 ppm ethepon concentration on day 12 which was indicated by a change in color of the siam garut orange from green to yellowish orange based on the value of Citrus Color. Index (CCI) from -30,36 (green) to 5,85 (yellowish orange), color score 3,72 (yellowish orange), weight loss 7,51%, °Hue 65,55, vitamin C 23,72 mg/100g, total dissolved solids 7,83 °Brix, water content 88,72%, hardness 2,3 kgf, and hedonic test 3,61. The Covid-19 pandemic can encourage the economic growth of citrus fruit farmers in Indonesia by improving the visual quality of citrus fruits, especially the yellow-orange siam garut oranges through the degreening process.
