Description
Summary:Mangrove forests are an important ecosystem for coastal areas because of its various functions dan potentials which can provide many benefits for human in the form of ecosystem services. An economic assesments or economic valuation of those benefits needs to be done as a consideration for decision making to estimate the economic efficiency of various possible uses to make them more optimal and sustainable. Leuweung Sancang Nature Reserve in Garut is one of the important conservation in West Java. This study aims to identify and calculate the total economic value of mangrove ecosystems services in Leuweung Sancang Nature Reserve, Garut, West Java. Economic valuation analysis of mangrove ecosystems is carried out using the Total Economic Value (TEV) approach, which consists of use value and non-use value. The valuation method used were market price method, replacement method, an approach that refers to the biodiversity value of mangrove forests in Indonesia, and contingent valuation method by measuring the willingness to pay for the preservation of mangrove ecosystem. With a total area of 144,1 hectares of mangrove, the total economic value of the benefits that can be provided is Rp8,867,086,430/year. This amount consist of the direct use value from the benefit of crabs Rp1,288,224,000, the indirect value from the benefit of saltwater intrusion prevention Rp743,978,040 and the benefit from breakwater Rp6,618,772,640, the option value Rp31,341,750, and the existence value Rp184,770,000. By knowing the total economic value of an ecosystem, it is expected that the stakeholders will easier to allocate funds for conservation because they know the amount of benefits obtained from the existence of this ecosystem.
