ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF STIFFNESS, DISTANCE AND TYPE OF BUS SEATS ON PASSENGER INJURY IN FRONTAL COLLISIONS

As the population of Indonesia increases, so does the need of transportation to support population mobility. One of the vehicles that has experienced a fairly high increase is the bus. The increase of vehicles causes the number of vehicle accidents in Indonesia every year. In 2019, there were 175,48...

One of the vehicles that has experienced a fairly high increase is the bus. The increase of vehicles causes the number of vehicle accidents in Indonesia every year. In 2019, there were 175,488 accident victims consisting of 26,000 deaths. One of the common types of accidents that occur on buses is a frontal collision. This collision can cause a minor injury to death. Injuries on the head, neck, thorax and femur are types of injuries of the human body that can cause death and serious injury. The bus seat is one of the factor that greatly affects the injuries that occur to passengers because of the possibility of direct contact between bus passengers and bus seats. There are various variations that can be applied on bus seat, such as seat design, stiffness, type of seat belt used, the distance between seats and others. In this research, a sled test simulation will be carried out using the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Regulation No. 80 (UN ECE R80) to analyze injuries on bus passengers modeled with a dummy. The test will be carried out by varying the distance between the seats and the stiffness of the backrest on two types of chairs from two different chair manufacturers. The simulations were using LS-DYNA and ANSYS Mechanical APDL software. text
