OPTIMIZATION OF INJECTION TYPE MOTORCYCLE ENGINE TUNING ON THE USE OF A20 FUEL

Regulation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry No. 20 of 2017 requires research octane number (RON) value of fuel that is on the market not to be below 91, yet RON 88 and 90 fuels are still offered in some gas stations. A20 is a great solution candidate because of its similarity to gasoline...

A20 is a great solution candidate because of its similarity to gasoline and has a high RON value. However, methanol and ethanol blends could increase the reid vapor pressure (RVP) and cause swelling effect so that additives need to be added. This addition leads to deposit formation problems in the engine therefore AFR optimization is required. This study is a descriptive study using primary data to determine the optimum engine tuning on the use of A20 by assessing chassis dynamometer and 60-hour idle test results with respect to parameters. The parameters are weighted using analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and each test result will be given scores. There are four test repetitions: RON 88 as base fuel, A20 with standard tuning, A20 with maximum power AFR tuning, and A20 with gasoline stoichiometric AFR tuning. Assessment result shows us that the optimum engine tuning is A20 with standard tuning which means that A20 can be used without certain special tunings. A20 is expected to be able to replace RON 88 without exhibiting several significant adverse effects to the engine. text
