Summary: | During the last few years, the production of apparel has increased which
affects the generation of apparel waste. So, the purpose of this study is to
determine the generation and composition of apparel waste in Bandung and
its recycling potential. This is done by considering knowledge about
recycling, the treatment of apparel waste and the willingness of the
community to manage apparel waste. The type of research conducted is
descriptive research with qualitative and quantitative data. Primary data
collection for the study was carried out using the Stratified Random Sampling
method where from that method a minimum of 400 samples were obtained.
The results of the study were processed using IBM SPSS 25 software. From
the results of the study, it is found that the waste generation is 6
kg/person/year, where the composition of the waste consisted of 22% pants,
then 21%% t-shirts, 18% jackets/outerwear, 15 shirts, %, overalls by 9%,
shoes by 5%, headscarves by 5%, underwear by 2%, sports clothes by 2%
and sandals by 1%. For the treatment of apparel waste, 27.45% of
respondents disposed the apparel, 87.25% made a donation, 17.18% made a
sale and 88.07% re-used it. For knowledge about recycling, more than 50%
of respondents know the meaning and items that can be recycled, and more
than 50% of respondents are willing to manage apparel waste. Proposed
efforts to manage apparel waste include collection carried out independently
by the community, storage using plastic containers, transportation using
engkel boxes and the process chosen is mechanical processing. |
