The mangrove forest of Kuala Langsa is located on the west shore of Langsa City, Aceh. The
Kuala Langsa mangrove forest covers roughly 6724 ha, with 1,687.76 ha set aside as a
protected forest, and the rest divided between production forest, conversion production forest,
and aquaculture zones. According to the Aceh Regional III Forest Management Unit, this area
boasts the most extensive collection of mangrove species in Southeast Asia, with 32 kinds. Some
of the mangrove species in the Kuala Langsa mangrove forest area are extremely ancient and
huge, thus they must be protected.
The Kuala Langsa mangrove forest, like most coastal ecosystems, is not immune to destruction.
Human activities such as the exploitation of mangrove forests for infrastructure development
and pond fishing are the main drivers of mangrove forest loss in Kuala Langsa. Furthermore,
abrasion and erosion along the seashore and along river banks degrade environmental quality.
Maximum restoration attempts are not supporting this state of mangrove forest land
deterioration. The Langsa City Government owns this land, which is being administered by the
private sector. Because the current management does not prioritize conservation and
sustainability, it risks reducing physical, economic, and ecological functions.
The goal of this thesis was to use ecotourism principles like conservation, community
engagement, and economy to develop the Kuala Langsa mangrove forest landscape as an
ecological agricultural area. This area has been separated into many zones with the goal of
identifying diverse purposes, activities, facilities, and design components to aid conservation
efforts and preserve the shoreline from abrasion. The Kuala Langsa mangrove forest
landscape will be designed as an ecological cultivation area and ecotourism destination,
resulting in a mangrove landscape that is interwoven with the area's role as a home for flora
and wildlife, as well as a coastline defender. |
