Summary:Within a few years from now, the workforce will be exposed with a snowball of change. Welcome the Generation who is no longer just facing technology every day but is intuitive with tech – Generation Z! To prepare for this drastic change, this research aims to identify the Generation’s preference on leadership to enhance effective leadership and maximize their capabilities through motivation, commitment, persistence, productivity, loyalty by meeting this preference. Indonesia and Japan are two very uniquely similar countries in harmony, value, unity, collectiveness, diversity, and high-context communication. Yet, they are very different when seen from organizational culture and belief. As the two countries are facing underemployment, researcher took the opportunity to altogether assess Generation Z’s leadership preference in the two countries. The paper is an empirical research done qualitatively through interviews to 16 informants from both countries with their respective language for those unable to speak English. Conclusion had Indonesia preferring leaders with Responsible, Effective Communication, Knowledgeable, United traits; while Japanese want similarly Responsible, Effective Communication, Future-oriented, Extraversion leaders. There is a correlation between the difference in background and their leadership preference that is specified in the paper. Researcher recommends future research to compare between two distinctive countries to conclude deeper about the detailed factors affecting leadership preference in employees.
