Description
Summary:Indonesia consists of various tribes which makes Indonesia a country with many cultures. One of the many ancestral heritages in Indonesia is weaving. Cual Bangka, a woven fabric from Bangka Belitung, is a part of that heritage. Currently, Cual Bangka is developed by weavers in Pangkal Pinang. The special characteristic of Cual fabric is that it’s a combination of two hand-woven techniques, tie weaving and sungkit. Cual woven fabric from Bangka Belitung also has authentic patterns, inspired by nature like flora and fauna. Cual Bangka fabric has more or less 20 different kind of patterns. The unique characteristics of Cual fabric can be an opportunity for it to be elevated and applied into modern fashion. Exploration of surface textile is necessary in applying Cual Bangka’s motifs into today’s fashion. The surface textile techniques used to develop Cual decoration in modern fashion are screen printing, beading, and embroidery. Those techniques are used so that Cual Bangka decorations can be applied into today’s fashion without losing the characteristics of the Cual fabric itself.
