The object under study is tall building subjected to air flow that passes through the building. This case represents the current condition where buildings are getting higher and made of lightweight materials so that these buildings are more flexible and have a small damping value. This condition makes the building vulnerable to dynamic loading which can result in structural failure or occupant comfort. One alternative to suppress the response due to dynamic loading is through devices capable of absorbing energy, such as the Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) system. The research was focused on the response of the building subjected to wind load and the evaluation was carried out using numerical methods. First, the building structure was modeled with a mass-spring system using a shear building type. The response of the structure and loading under consideration are in the same lateral direction. A computational program based on the Runge-Kutta method was developed with varying time step to analyze the response of the structure. The method is validated in a simple case, namely a 4-storey building whose responses have been calculated by other researchers. After that, the method was applied to a 76-story building. Comparison of response between buildings without and with the TMD system shows that about 30% of the response structure can be reduced by using the TMD system. This shows the effectiveness of using the TMD system to reduce the response of the building to wind disturbances. text
