INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/58067 Traditional Indonesian woven fabric is a man-made textile product, made by interlacing the warp and weft yarns together through a non-mechanic loom. This fabric is one of the cultural heritage of Indonesia, which has become a characteristic of one’s ethnic group or tribe. Among many variations of woven fabrics around Indonesia, lurik is one of them that can be found in Central and East Java. One of the trademark of this fabric is its lerek-lerek or horizontal and vertical stripe patterns, which size depends on the width and length of the fabric itself. Nowadays, most of the weaving companies shifts to machine loom because of its effectiveness. This eventually results in the declining market for traditionally-woven fabric such as lurik, and causing many of the lurik business to close. This research is conducted to try and visually analyse some of the traditional lurik fabric, and to approach exploring the fabric with slash quilt technique. Slash quilt technique allows the surface of the fabric to be slashed to gain different textures, colours, and a three-dimensional effect. The product of this research can be an innovation for the lurik fabric, where the resulting textile is able to be used to make fashion or interior products. text
