Description
Summary:The process of making products is related with waste produced. Good products have efficient and appropriate materials so it can produce waste that is safe to the environment. Environmental pollution due to industrial waste that using synthetic dyes is a major problem. It gave negative impacts for environment and public health. The amount of use of natural dyes in batik is less than synthetic dyes tend to produce unsustainable products. Sustainability is a part that must be considered before doing the design needed by most of community. Previous research has not been brought up SDGs (sustainable development gosals) specifically in point number twelfth, which is responsible comsumption and production. The point describes how to overcome and guarantee production and consumption patterns in Ciwaringin batik products. Natural dyes on Ciwaringin batik need to be elaborated specifically with aim to determine the sustainability of Ciwaringin batik products. This research uses qualitative method which use two types of natural dyes, namely mahogany bark (Swietenia macrophylla) and mango bark (Mangifera indica). Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, questionnaire and documentation. Data were analyzed by using ecodesign checklist based on five components that are production and supply of materials components, in-house production, distribution, utilization, recovery and disposal. Based on the results of the data analysis, it can be concluded that Ciwaringin batik products as sustainable products. The recommendations are reducing duration of extraction process become 1 hour and change the dyeing process become 8 times. This recommendation does not only aim to achieve the efficiency of production process but also to produce optimal colors which accordance with SDGs principle. This research can be a reference for all batik entarepreneurs in determining sustainable product design
