Description
Summary:Increased consumptive culture which results in a lot of industrial production waste, resulting in environmental pollution. Most of the environmental pollution issues are caused by textile waste made from synthetic materials. Answering these problems, this research seeks to provide alternative processes and new dye materials that are environmentally friendly. Processing natural dyes into organic screen printing inks is a novelty in the process of coloring and printing motifs on textiles. Organic inks are created through the experimental stages of natural dye solutions and thickening agents. This research was carried out using an exploratory method and a mix- methods approach which included related literature studies, experiments to find recipes for dye paste solutions and exploration. The experimental results in the form of colors were developed in the process of exploring motifs using screen printing techniques which were then tested for the preferences and interests of potential customers related to the development and design of textile products. This research proves that natural dyes can be used as the main ingredient of organic ink for screen printing techniques with added thickening agent. The process of forming the paste texture is strongly influenced by the type of thickening agent used, this is related to the absorption of the dye paste on cotton fabrics. A dye paste that has good absorption will produce good colors and does not fade, in this process color locking is also carried out using the post-mordanting method to strengthen the color on the fabric. Furthermore, this research proves that printing motifs using screen printing can be used as a way to decorate textile surfaces, especially home and living products that are of interest to customers. The hope is, this product can be an opportunity for product development and market expansion of the scope of environmentally friendly creative products. This research is also expected to add to the repertoire of knowledge in the fields of chemistry, economics, textiles, design and business development of household decoration products.
