Summary: | Medan City is the capital city of North Sumatra Province, Indonesia, with 2,499,838 people
(Kemendagri 2018). The large population consists of various ethnic groups that become
the strength and create the characteristics of the City of Medan. In addition, to the Malays
and Karo as natives, the city of Medan is also dominated by Javanese, Chinese,
Minangkabau, Mandailing, and Indian ethnicities. However, children aged 6-8 years old
are not yet fully aware of this ethnic wealth, even though this phenomenon can help
children realize the concept of diversity and respect the background of each human being.
This design aims to display educational information that is light and fun so that children
can love Medan more and get a picture of the existence of ethnic pluralism. The design of
this interactive picture book uses qualitative methods to reveal the data collection results
that form the basis for the design of the work. Visual processing in the design is based on
several keywords, namely varied, playful, and informative, to display a picture of a
plurality of cities that is fun and not patronizing. The information displayed in this
