Description
Summary:In this digital era, the daily lives of humans are never avoided by the pressure of idealised beauty standards which are constantly being shown by mass media. Be it through the television, internet, or magazines, beauty standards may induce negative influences especially on teenage girls. Either psychologically or physically, several of those impacts could be negative self image, depression, over-dieting, and even eating disorders. The prevention of said negative impacts need to be realised from adolescence. By means of solving this problem, there is a need for an inclusive media of representation that is able to challenge idealised physical labels. Through this research, the illustrated biography book “Beauty in Diversity” is designed with hopes to be able to open women’s minds that there is a wider concept of beauty and to grow the confidence of readers. This book is designed with a color palette inspired by diverse skin tones, which uses a vast color spectrum but with lower saturation as young women find appealing. Lastly, there are several visual elements considered in this design process such as illustration, typography, ornament, and layout that brings out ethereal and empowering characteristics.
