Steampunk was said to be an imagination of what people in those era thought how the future will be. As the name implied, steampunk is tightly connected with steam machines. The visual of steampunk mainly consisted of gears, pipes, chains, etc. As a science fiction subgenre, steampunk created a subculture which idealize the harmonization of human lifes and steam-technology. This idealization is backed by steampunk principle which encourage individual self-expression. Along with the principle and the main theme of steampunk, steampunk became an aesthetic subculture with a unique and strong characteristic. Some of the ideology that came from steampunk include: anti-consumerism, rebelling strict bureaucratic, and appreciate individuality. Steampunk works have a similar value with kriya Indonesia, such as an apreciation toward handcrafted product. Steampunk's anti-consumerism drives steampunk to create their works by themselves, as mass-produced product lacks individuality. This research's purpose it to use steampunk as an inspiration in making ceramic teapots. Teapot is chosen because the correlation between steampunk and teapot, where steampunk use heat as their main energy and teapot is used to store hot beverages. The combination of these two variables is expected to expose steampunk's values and to create a new design style. text
