ANALYSIS OF COMMERCIAL FEEDING WITH A MIXTURE OF HERMETIA ILLUCENS L. AND CORN FODDER (ZEA MAYS L.) ON BIOMASS AND MEAT QUALITY OF PEKING DUCK (ANAS PLATYRHYNCHOS DOMESTICUS)

The need for food in Indonesia continues to increase along with the increasing population, one of which is the need for animal protein. One source of animal protein is obtained from poultry such as chicken, duck, and peking duck. Peking duck (Anas platyrhynchos domesticus L.) has a high source of an...

One source of animal protein is obtained from poultry such as chicken, duck, and peking duck. Peking duck (Anas platyrhynchos domesticus L.) has a high source of animal protein so that it can meet human protein needs and has been widely cultivated. However, duck farming has several problems, namely the availability of feed, feed quality, and relatively expensive feed prices. An alternative that can be done to solve this problem is the use of Hermetia illucens L. or Black Soldier Fly (BSF) as a feed composition that has a high protein content and can be a bioconversion agent for organic waste. The use of BSF as duck feed can be combined with bran and forage feeds such as corn fodder (Zea mays L.). This study aims to analyze the effect of giving five feed compositions, namely P1 (100% commercial feed), P2 (50% commercial feed + 50% bran), P3 (50% commercial feed + 25% bran + 25% BSF), P4 (40 % commercial feed + 20% bran + 20% corn fodder + 20% BSF), and P5 (50% commercial feed + 25% bran + 25% corn fodder) on Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) and Digested Efficiency Conversion (ECD), and the quality of Peking duck meat. This research was conducted in Jatiendah Village, Cilengkrang District, Bandung Regency. The data obtained were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 26 software and proximate testing of Peking duck meat was carried out at the Laboratory of Ruminant Animal Nutrition and Animal Food Chemistry, Faculty of Animal Science, Padjadjaran University. The results showed that commercial feed rations with a combination of Hermatia illucens L., bran, and fodder corn (Zea mays L.) had an effect on Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) and Digested Efficiency Conversion (ECD), as well as the proximate of Peking duck meat. The best results were found in the treatment of 40% commercial + 20% bran + 20% BSF + 20% corn fodder (P4). text
