This study applies augmented reality technology to increase availability and facilitate accessibility for studying natural and cultural objects. This study also compares marker-based and marker-less AR methods through user studies. Analyses are conducted to obtain system requirements specifications and the application design. The augmented reality application for displaying collections of Bandung Geology Museum is implemented using the ARCore SDK and the Sceneform library. This application provides two choices of augmented reality methods that can be used, namely marker-based AR and markerless AR so that comparison methods are easier to do. This application has been tested in a black-box test to test the functionality requirements. The test results show that the implementation of the application has achieved the functionality requirements and has been built in accordance with the application design. The user study shows that the two methods used in augmented reality-based applications that are built have a fairly good usability value. Meanwhile, in terms of performance, the marker-based method is superior to the markerless method. text |

Augmented reality technology is used by museums to improve people’s interest in
cultural heritage, improve visitor engagement in museums, and make it easier for augmented
reality application users to view museum collections.
This study applies augmented reality technology to increase availability and facilitate
accessibility for studying natural and cultural objects. This study also compares marker-based
and marker-less AR methods through user studies.
Analyses are conducted to obtain system requirements specifications and the
application design. The augmented reality application for displaying collections of Bandung
Geology Museum is implemented using the ARCore SDK and the Sceneform library. This
application provides two choices of augmented reality methods that can be used, namely
marker-based AR and markerless AR so that comparison methods are easier to do.
This application has been tested in a black-box test to test the functionality
requirements. The test results show that the implementation of the application has achieved the
functionality requirements and has been built in accordance with the application design. The
user study shows that the two methods used in augmented reality-based applications that are
built have a fairly good usability value. Meanwhile, in terms of performance, the marker-based
method is superior to the markerless method. |
