Summary: | School is a manifestation of architecture as an educational medium that is increasingly needed,
especially in time when the world develops much faster than Indonesia's education development. The
ability of lifelong learning through holistic education is very much needed by our generations and the
next. To respond it, an international high school project was initiated at Summarecon Bandung, West
Java. This project is located on a site with an area of 12,676m2
initiated by a fictitious private party
with the main users being students aged 15-19 years, teachers, school staffs, and also guests. The
project’s site is located in Gedebage, one of the areas in Bandung City that often experiences flooding.
Summarecon Bandung has carried out soil engineering so that the area does not experience flooding
and the contour of the site tends to be flat. The design approach is carried out by zoning space
requirements based on the level of privacy of various categories of building users. The design concept
presented is all about how the design sees every space on the site, both indoor and outdoor spaces,
as a learning space both formal and informal to accommodate various learning models according to
the needs and requests from the students and the teachers. The main design issues include schools as
21st century education, social interaction as a process of learning activities, and flexibility in teaching
and learning processes. Zoning in the design needs to pay attention to comfort, circulation, security,
identity, accessibility, and energy efficiency with the design of spaces that are flexible in their use. The
building is a combination of 3 main masses, namely the auditorium, administrative, and class clusters.
The orientation of the class clusters is made at 45o horizontally from other masses to emphasize zoning
and maximize views towards lakes and parks that support the learning process. The building consists
of 3 floors with a built floor area of 9500m2 which includes a sports field. The building material used
is reinforced concrete which is done in situ on the site. This project is expected to be a good example
in responding to the close relationship between educational models and architecture. School building
designs can no longer be left behind from the rapid and unpredictable development of educational
models. |
