Barium ferrite has quite fine remanence and coercivity. To produce a good magnetic characteristic, the barium ferrite powder has to be made in nanometer scale size, single phase, and narrow size distribution. Many researches have been done by experts to increase the magnetic characteristic of barium ferrite. One of methods that used to get nanometer size, single phase, and also narrow size distribution powder is solgel auto combustion. . Solgel auto combustion is a method that using the combustion of metal salt with an organic fuel. In this experiment barium ferrite particles were prepared by solgel auto combustion method using raw materials, Fe(NO3)3.9H2O, Ba(NO3)2, and citric acid. The raw materials were dissolved in aqua bidestilat. The experiment also used hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as oxidant. Fe : Ba ratio was 7 and 12, while ratio of cation to citric acid was maintained at 1 : 2. Four samples, with different amount of oxidant addition, were made for Fe/Ba ratio of 7 to discover the effect of increasing oxidant amount to the resulted barium ferrite powder. Two different solutions, with and without H2O2, were prepared for Fe/Ba ratio of 12. The pH was kept 7 for all sample made. The calcined barium ferrite powders were characterized by XRD, SEM, and Permagraph magnetometer. From the result, known that the coercivity of barium ferrite powder was influenced by oxidant addition. Maximum magnetic characteristic couldn’t be achieved due to excessive BaFe2O4 as well hematite in respective samples. text
