It is part of The Balikpapan Formation which is deposited in a delta environment with ranges in age from Middle Miocene to Upper Miocene. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This research is devoted to figure out the outline of problem which affects the variation of sulphur contents at Palaran area corresponds with the paleoenvironment and the developed geological structure. Coal sampling was conducted on Seam S at two non-influenced and an influenced fault areas. The non-fault areas represented by location 1 with the unsteep dip around 7-25 and location 2 with the steep dip around 30 -60. The fault-area represented by location 3 with the extreme dip around 68-3. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Based on four parameters of coal paleoenvironment reconstruction like TPI (tissue preservation index), GI (gelification index), GWI (groundwater index), and VI (vegetation index), it could be interpreted that the coal Seam S is deposited in the upper delta plain environment with the type of ombrotrophic peat. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> According to sulphur analysis, the total sulphur content at non-fault areas with unsteep dipping is 0,37% and with steep dipping is 0,84%, while the total sulphur content at fault area increases to 2,26%. In general, the sulphur analysis reveals that the total sulphur content on the coal Seam S is dominated by organic sulphur. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The variation of total sulphur on the coal Seam S is correspond with the type of plant and also paleoenvironment condition. It could be shown by domination of telocolinite which derived from woody plant material, while the geological structure especially fault affects the sulphur distribution at the coal seam S significantly, primarily for pyritic sulphur. Based on petrographic and SEM analysis, the content of epygenetic pyrite which fills the cleat in the fault area is higher than the non-fault areas. text |
