Description
Summary:Abstrak

Flow and transport phenomenon are of considerable importance for environmental impact assessment of many engineering study with related them, examples : current prediction dan substance transport (pollutant, salt, sediment, e.t.c) on shallow water. This study can be done using physical and mathematical models. Nowadays , mathematical model seems more feasible than physical modelling. Along with the computer technology innovation, mathematical model has been going through rapid development, with the occurrence numerical modelling instead of analitical solution. The Taylor Galerkin finite element method is one of available method that can be applied in transport phenomenon case on shallow water problem, usually stated with Advection-Diffusion differential equation.

The Taylor Galerkin method is a combination between approximation Taylor series for time discretization and Galerkin method for spatial discretization. This method, a further development of Galerkin method, is firstly intoduced by J. Donea (1984).

This thesis will discuss analitical and numerical method of transport phenomenon for shallow water. Analitical method is used as comparation for Taylor Galerkin method. The objective is for model calibration for Galerkin method. After that a test will be conducted to the Taylor Galerkin method especially for a pure advection case.

Then that method is applied for simple case and field case. Analisys is conducted to the results of Taylor Galerkin method
From those cases, it can be concluded that calculation using Taylor Galerkin finite element method gives a very good result.
