Description
Summary:The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) projects that by 2035, 66.6% of Indonesia's population will be urban residents. The high number of people living in urban areas has an impact on the availability of public open spaces in urban areas, including public play spaces for children (Manurung, 2017). Whereas playing, recreation and creation are children's rights that has been guaranteed in one of Indonesian Law concerning Child Protection. Bandung as a city that implements the Child Friendly City policy is committed to ensuring the fulfillment of children's rights. With limited vacant land, Alun-alun Ujungberung park as one of the public spaces where children and teenagers went there to play and relax (Ibadillah & Heru, 2016), it would be better if the existing public space became a child-friendly space. In evaluating how child-friendly the park is, a literature review was carried out so that 6 criteria and several indicators were obtained that became the parameters for assessing child-friendly public spaces. These criteria include safety, security, comfort, health, accessibility, and exploration. The pseudo-evaluation technique was carried out using the checklist method.. Based on the results of the assessment and the average of the six aspects considered, Alun-alun Ujungberung park is included in the ‘Child Friendly Enough’ category. Alun-alun Ujungberung park as one of the public spaces in Bandung city has not been able to accommodate the whole principle of childfriendly space.
