TRANSFER HUB: REVITALIZATION AND PROVISION OF TOURISM ATTRACTION IN MANGGARAI STATION AREA

Manggarai Area is a medium node area for Jabodetabek public transportation. This area has two transportation buildings, Manggarai Station and Manggarai Terminal, which become a meeting place for various train and public transportation. With the Central Government's plan to make Manggarai Station a central station, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government plans to provide facilities connecting Manggarai Station and Manggarai Terminal by making a transfer route to facilitate passengers switching between modes of transportation. Manggarai Area also has residential areas where many people depend on this area for their income. Under these conditions, there are three main issues in the Manggarai Area: circulation and accessibility, tourism attractions, and economy. Providing a transfer hub is the solution to those issues. Transfer hub built on 16,000 m2 of land owned by PT Kereta Api Indonesia, located between Manggarai Station and Manggarai Terminal. Function as a transfer route, users are an essential factor. Dominant users of the transfer hub are KRL and bus passengers, who need to move between transportation modes and nearby places effectively and efficiently. Therefore, the transfer hub has a fast lane with sufficient width also connects to transportation buildings and the entrance of the transfer hub, commercial areas, apartments, and other facilities. The design has three main concepts: tropical connected pedestrian, tourism attractions, and local business support. The building adapts to tropical climate by exploring facade, material, opening, and glass roof to maximize natural ventilation and lighting. There is also a garden and spatio-temporal space to accommodating street vendors. Moreover, there is an amphitheater, a socio-petal space, to increase the interaction and attractiveness of the building through various activities. Thus, this transfer hub is not just a transfer route with various supporting facilities but also a building to support local economic activities and become an attraction of the Manggarai Area.
