Description
Summary:Pepe River flows in the central part of Surakarta City and is a tributary of the Bengawan Solo River. The existence of the Pepe River in the central area of Surakarta City makes the Pepe River has a significant historical value for the City of Surakarta. In its time, the Pepe River had become the center of community activity in Surakarta, namely as a center for trade and water transportation. Riveroriented community activities began to disappear along with the development of urban morphology so that the Pepe River only became part of the city space that functions as a place for water flow. Apart from historical value, Pepe River also has good potential because it is located in the KSPD (Regional Tourism Strategic Area) of Surakarta City, so it is close to other tourist areas. This potential can be utilized by developing city river tourism facilities. With the development of this tourist facility, Pepe River can become one of the activity spaces for the people of Surakarta City and can become a supporting tourist destination that connects one tourist area with other tourist areas. This project is located on a 11.300 m2 area in the segment of the Pepe River at JL. Arifin, Surakarta City, Central Java. The development of tourist facilities in the form of a commercial area, a public area for residents, and tourist facilities that support the river edge. The space program is divided into four zones: Zone 1 is developed as commercial areas such as dining areas and retails of souvenir, Zone 2 is the tourist area of the river edge that comes with a dock and space other support, zone 3 as a public space for the citizens of the hometown to gather, and zone 4 is a promenade containing murals as well as a sitting area to enjoy the river atmosphere. The main concept of designing this tourist facility is "River as City Space." Making the Pepe River as one of the activity spaces for the city community so that people can recognize the existence of the Pepe River again. The development of this concept base on three main issues, namely orientation issues, attractions, and accessibility. This orientation issue makes the Pepe River become one of the faces of user activities and building. The attraction issue makes the Pepe River have a value of interest as a city river tourism area. The issue of accessibility is to build a promenade along the river border so that the river promenade can be connected and not cut off.
