Summary: | The high level of demands and its people competitiveness, make urban community feels saturated,
even stressed living their daily life. According to Sukadiyanto (2010), there are several ways to reduce
someone’s stress level. It can be done by doing activities that is entertaining or looking after plants
and animals. People's interest in animals is increasing year by year. This can be projected through the
number of animal events that is held and the number of visitors who attend those events. Therefore,
this project wants to create a recreational facility in the middle of the city that can accommodate
human-animal bonding. Human-animal bonding is a mutualistic relationship between humans and
animals that has a positive impact on the health and welfare of both parties.
The Human-Animal Bonding Environment project is a fictional project that is initiated by Dinas
Pariwisata dan Budaya Kabupaten Bogor with FKH IPB (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor
Agricultural University) in order to create restorative recreation for residents of Bogor and its
surroundings (Jabodetabek). The project will be built on an area of +16,000 m2 on Jalan Pakuan,
Babakan Madang, Sentul City. The location in Sentul was chosen because its very beautiful
environment that supports the idea to create a restorative atmosphere that blends with animals,
especially rural animals. In addition, the geographical location of Sentul City also has a great potential
because it is located among big cities in Java. The development of the infrastructure and the tourism
sector in Sentul City is also experiencing a very rapid development for the past few years.
This project is divided into several sectors, there are tourism sector as the main function and also
pet care facility as a supporting sector. The tourism sector has two themes, urban animals that present
animals found in urban life such as dogs and cats, and the second theme is rural animals, that present
animals commonly found in rural areas and farms. The animal pet care facility consists of veterinary
clinics and pet shops.
Meanwhile, in terms of architecture, there are things those can be done to reduce stress level,
such as by creating a restorative design and increasing public space to initiate communication. A
restorative environment is an environment that can reduce mental fatigue and increase one's
productivity. The presence of nature in the design can give a new experience and a feeling of being
away from the daily activities that causing urban community’s weariness. This project consists of
compound building masses with bamboo as their main material. Using bamboo as the project’main
material is due to its elastic nature, so it can easily create organic mass. In addition, the natural feelings
that’s bamboo create makes the building become more integrated with the nature around it.
