Description
Summary:Art and culture are not just entertainment. Both can be embedded in a city to become identity for the city itself. However, the importance of art and culture in society is starting to be forgotten along with modernization, as happened in Tangerang. Changes in priorities and the diminishing appreciation of art have caused the original art to fade in Tangerang. It started with a change in the function of the art center, which is a place for art communities to work. The loss of the place resulted in the loss of collaboration between artists which caused art communities to split and tend to develop individually. Therefore, cultural retention needs to be done as an effort to maintain the existence of culture in front of younger generation as the successor to the order of cultural values. The vision of this project is to revive the traditional arts of Tangerang and preserve them amidst modernization through collaboration and appreciation space for artists as well as educational and recreational facilities for public. This project has a land area of ??14,000 sqm and is located on Jalan M.H. Thamrin, Tangerang, which is close to the center of offices, housing, and art communities. To respond to the issues, this project brings the main concept of “enfolding art in modern public space” which consists of modern-cultural, collaborative, and sustainable. The circle shape was chosen to be the basic shape of the building mass as a unifying symbol of art communities. A modern impression was created on the mass composition with a combination of batik facades to blend locality into the design. The structural system used is a combination of concrete, steel V-column, and space frames. Through these concepts, this project is also expected to become a new icon for the arts in Tangerang.
