Summary: | These days, library is just defined to be a facility to hold dan safe books passively. But actually, library can take an active part in the society. Library can help connect many people, effectively for people with the same interests, to be in the same place to interact and discuss about new ideas. In Jakarta, as the capital of Indonesia, up until now there isn’t any library built just focusing on creative arts whilst the community is growing bigger rapidly. This means it’s the right time to build one.
This library project brought a vision to be a library for creative community that can become a middle ground for the community surrounding it and help support the community. Communities that become the main focus and are in the surrounding area are fine arts, design, and film community. This library is located in Jalan Kemang Raya, Jakarta, with total site area of 5,000 m2. Inside the site, there are four main buildings, main building of the library, a gallery, rows of retails, and an amphitheater. The library as the main building composed of a lot of functions, some of them are five different reading room types, co-working space, multimedia room, and audiovisual room.
There are two main issues for this project planning, connectivity and to facilitate the targeted community. The issues then are researched and brought up to be the foundation for the main concept.
The main concept for the library design consists of three steps for the users to experience throughout the project. First, users can be motivated by connecting with others. Second, users can be inspired by browsing and experiencing the rooms and collections of books and works. Third, users can learn and discuss new topics and ideas by reading to be used in the future projects. All three steps are assembled to be the main flow of users when exploring the project. |
