It can be achieved by enriching the environment with considerations of complexity, order, and aesthetics. Hospitals as health care environments has an obligation to form this positive environment. One main difference separating mental hospital from the other hospitals are the characteristics of the patients, namely the presence of mental and emotional disorders that cause actions that deviate from the existing norms. These deviations can cause some harm and danger to the patients and everyone around them, so safety became a priority. Everyone knows safety has already been excellently implemented in hospitals, but there’s another equally important aspect that’s often forgotten. Comfort is an important aspect to create a positive mental environment. The mental health ward at Banyumas Regional Hospital is still not ideal in forming a positive mental environment. A redesign was chosen as a solution to this problem using a salutogenic approach. Salutogenic Architecture theory has 3 main points, namely manageability, comprehensiveness, and meaningfulness. In designing this building, security, comfort, image, as well as accessibility and legibility are problems that needs to be considered. Improvements to the quality of the building are carried out by implementing the three points to solve these existing problems. The result is a three story mental healthcare building with integrated courtyards. The courtyard acts as the center of the building orientation, as well to provide light and view. The total floor area of the building is 4000m2 which was built on a site with the area of 5600 m2, which is part of the Banyumas Regional Hospital complex. By paying attention to the use of materials, colors, and architectural details, the building is designed with the user experience as the main focus. text
