INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/60611 Population density causes limited agricultural land, especially in urban areas due to land conversion. The cultivation system that is suitable to be carried out on small / limited land is to use raised beds which are environmentally friendly because they do not cultivate the soil. In this system, the multilayered no-dig method is used on the growing media. Red bean plants were chosen because they contain nutrients that are useful for the body. This study aims to determine the best composition of layered planting media on the growth and production of red bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) biomass in a raised bed system. The research was carried out at the ITB Education Garden in Haurngombong village, Sumedang in October 2020 - April 2021. This research design used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 3 treatments, namely TP (cardboard, soil, and manure), STPK (cardboard, litter, soil, manure, and compost), and STPKM (cardboard, litter, soil, manure, compost, and mulch) with 9 replications. Parameters observed in this study were growth which included plant height, number of leaves, and relative growth rate, parameters of biomass production which included wet and dry weight of plants, root and shoot ratio, number of fruit, and fruit weight, as well as the final condition of the growing media and installation. The results obtained that STPKM treatment gave the best results on plant height growth parameters of 34.28% and leaf number of 34.24% and TP treatment gave the best results at RGR value of 35.13%. The STPKM treatment gave the best results on plant biomass production parameters of 38.88% and 39.01%, the root and shoot ratio was 45.40%, and the number of fruit were 37.29% and STPK treatment produces the highest of fruit weight (34.97%). In general, the STPKM treatment gave the best results on the growth parameters and biomass production of red bean plants. text
