Sustainable streetscape is one of the strategies in improving road corridors by
considering the needs of road users in the future, related to movement, environment
and activities. There are four main principles that need to be considered in a
sustainable streetscape, those related to urban, social, economic and environmental.
As a result, more and more cities are looking to change the way they design their
streetscapes with sustainability to comply the needs of road users. The Syekh Datul
Kahfi road Corridor as a commercial corridor in the Sentra Trusmi Batik area has
poor physical and environmental qualities so that it has an impact on the socioeconomic aspects of the area, as a result the movement of pedestrians and vehicle
stalled, passive and unattractive. The corridor is vital because it is a source of income
for the surrounding area as an accommodator for tourists and local visitors, therefore
it is necessary to treat the Syekh Datul Kahfi road corridor to support the vitality of
the area. In this context, the research aims to design the Syekh Datul Kahfi road
corridor in Cirebon into a comfortable and lively commercial corridor through the
principles and concepts of sustainable streetscape as a way to activate the road
corridor as a public space that includes a road corridor as a connector and as a place.
The method used in the design is the synoptic method which begins with direct
observations to understand the physical and non-physical qualities of the Syekh Datul
Kahfi road corridor, then analysing the results of data collection, to describe
alternative concepts and design simulations. There are deliberations related to the
needs of road users in the future, it is necessary to involve road users and business
owners to find out perceptions and preferences on Sheikh Datul Kahfi road corridor
through a questionnaire that generates potential and problems. Respondents involved
consisted of 8 business owners and 26 road users randomly. To make the streetscape
of the Syekh Datul Kahfi road corridor sustainable, active, attractive and able to raise
the socio-economic aspects of the area, it is necessary to improve the quality of the
area comprehensively by deliberating the criteria and components formed through the
design principles consisting of accessibility, parking, security, comfort. , outdoor space
as a public space, and the environment, so that the movement of vehicles and people
activity becomes running well, road corridors become active and can accommodate a
variety of activities. With a good and well-planned physical quality of the road, the
quality of the area will be better and there will be more visitors, so as to improve the
socio-economic aspects of the design area.
