STUDY ON NON-DESTRUCTIVE TEST FOR INDUSTRIAL WEIGHT USING ULTRASONIC TOMOGRAPHY WITH ALGEBRAIC RECONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUE

Industrial weights in trade often do not meet the standards requirement, this is caused by the presence of material defects in the weight., An inspection is needed to detect these defects. Ultrasonic non-destructive test is a non-destructive test method by utilizing ultrasonic waves as an illu...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/61025 Industrial weights in trade often do not meet the standards requirement, this is caused by the presence of material defects in the weight., An inspection is needed to detect these defects. Ultrasonic non-destructive test is a non-destructive test method by utilizing ultrasonic waves as an illuminator to detect a material defect or to image a cross-section of an object. Pulse echo and through transmission are ultrasonic measurement method that used to detect defects in the simulated object, while the algebraic reconstruction based on the Kaczmarz Iteration method is chosen as the reconstruction technique to image the cross-section of the simulated object. There are two simulation stages in this final project, first is to measure defects using the ultrasonic non-destructive test method. Second is to reconstruct the cross-sectional image of the test object. Focus of this research is to detect cracks, inclusions, voids, and inhomogeneities. The simulation results show that ultrasonic measurements are suitable for identifying cracks, voids, and inclusions defects. Kaczmarz Iteration method is able to image cracks, inclusions, voids, and inhomogeneities. For crack defects, the best image is obtained for internal crack defects at an angle of 90° with a degree of correlation of 0.837. For inclusion defects with a wave propagation speed of 3500 m/s and a diameter of 3 cm, the best image is obtained in the middle position, with a correlation degree of 0.848. For void defects, the best image is obtained at a diameter of 0.5 cm with a correlation degree of 0.325. text
