Summary: | The increasing number of populations, public consumption, and the variety of
public consumption patterns have resulted in an increase in the volume, type and
character of the waste produced. Various types of waste produced such as plastic
waste and electronic waste are hunted by waste bank managers and scrap
entrepreneurs to be used as business commodities. Scraps become the livelihood of the
people who are often found in rural areas and urban corners, even the existence of
scrap livelihoods in the Panguragan area blends with the settlement environment,
causing quite a dilemmatic influence.
This study aims to analyze the effect of scrap business activities on the socioeconomic characteristics of the community and the environment in the settlement. This
study uses primary data collection methods through observation, questionnaires and
interviews and secondary data through literature review. The sampling technique used
is Quota Sampling, so that the sample obtained is one hundred respondents. The
analytical method used is a mixed method approach, which is a combination of
quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative is used to determine the public
perception of the residential environment from the business activities of scrap, using
the One Sample T Test analysis method. Qualitative is used to analyze the data by
describing the data collected in the form of tables/diagrams.
The results show that scrap business activities in settlement are the main source
of livelihood for the Panguragan community with used goods commodities that can be
recycled for manufacturing industry raw materials including iron, plastic, glass
bottles, cans/aluminum. The social characteristics of the Panguragan community,
whose education level is still relatively low, are active in various social activities, do
not experience health problems from scrap business activities and are comfortable
living in used goods business activities and social conflicts rarely occur. The economic
characteristics of the Panguragan community are classified as medium income, the
dominant community works as entrepreneurs such as vehicle and electronic repairs,
and the most used goods entrepreneurs are in Panguragan Kulon Village. The
community's perception of the residential environment from the scrap business
activities does not have a bad perception in this business field, but from its activities
it has an impact on the environmental road network infrastructure. |
