Online learning creates limitations and a lack of interaction between students and lecturers, which is a challenge for the parties involved. Online learning also makes students passive and less productive due to changes in learning methods that are limited in the virtual space. Therefore, the role of the learning environment in universities becomes important, if the learning environment increases then student engagement is increased. Similarly, if the learning environment is experiencing a disconnection then student engagement decreases. This study aims to find out how the learning environment affects student engagement in generation Z students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research was conducted in Bandung City and Bandung Regency using a quantitative approach. The data collection tool used is a questionnaire that is distributed online to generation Z students with the period 2017/2018 – period 2019/2020 as respondents in this study. The sample size in this study was at least 500 respondents. Once the data is collected, the data is analyzed using several methods through descriptive analysis, classic assumption test, simple linear regression test, hypothesis testing, and determination coefficient test. The researcher uses SPSS applications as a tool in analyzing data. The results of this study showed that the learning environment significantly affects student engagement in generation Z students during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been proven based on the hypothesis that H0 was rejected and H1 accepted. Based on the results of the test and data analysis, it can be concluded that the learning environment has a significant influence on student engagement with a percentage of 29.8% and as much as 70.2% the rest explained by other factors not researched in this research. With the results obtained, this research can be said to be useful for universities in creating an adequate learning environment when learning online. It can also provide a good way to increase student engagement during learning. text |

The COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on various sectors, especially in the education sector.
Many countries have decided to close educational institutions. Similarly, in Indonesia, the
government must follow the instructions to implement online learning as a way to anticipate the
spread of COVID-19. Education has an important role in developing quality human resources.
To maintain the quality of education in these conditions, a good learning environment is required
so as to produce good student engagement as well. Online learning creates limitations and a lack
of interaction between students and lecturers, which is a challenge for the parties involved.
Online learning also makes students passive and less productive due to changes in learning
methods that are limited in the virtual space. Therefore, the role of the learning environment in
universities becomes important, if the learning environment increases then student engagement is
increased. Similarly, if the learning environment is experiencing a disconnection then student
engagement decreases. This study aims to find out how the learning environment affects student
engagement in generation Z students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research was
conducted in Bandung City and Bandung Regency using a quantitative approach. The data
collection tool used is a questionnaire that is distributed online to generation Z students with the
period 2017/2018 – period 2019/2020 as respondents in this study. The sample size in this study
was at least 500 respondents. Once the data is collected, the data is analyzed using several
methods through descriptive analysis, classic assumption test, simple linear regression test,
hypothesis testing, and determination coefficient test. The researcher uses SPSS applications as a
tool in analyzing data. The results of this study showed that the learning environment
significantly affects student engagement in generation Z students during the COVID-19
pandemic. It has been proven based on the hypothesis that H0 was rejected and H1 accepted.
Based on the results of the test and data analysis, it can be concluded that the learning
environment has a significant influence on student engagement with a percentage of 29.8% and
as much as 70.2% the rest explained by other factors not researched in this research. With the
results obtained, this research can be said to be useful for universities in creating an adequate
learning environment when learning online. It can also provide a good way to increase student
engagement during learning. |
