Haematococcus pluvialis is one of the microalgae that is known to have the potential to produce natural astaxanthin as a raw material in the pharmaceutical and neurochemical fields. This study aims to build a simulation model that is useful for the design and management of H. pluvialis cultivation. Mini research was carried out for the cultivation of H. pluvialis in commercial NPK fertilizer media with continuous light stress (photoperiod 24:0) to produce astaxanthin. This study also carried out a growth model simulation using the Baranyi-Roberts model and astaxanthin production using the Luedeking-Piret model at various light intensities. Modeling of growth and production of astaxanthin was carried out using MATLAB application using tools ode23 for parameter estimation and ode45 for model simulation. From mini research, it was found that the increase in biomass in commercial NPK fertilizer media was 4.7 times with a productivity of 0.03 g/L day, while in the red phase astaxanthin did not accumulate properly because no change in culture was observed to red. From the modeling results, the highest specific maximum growth rate was obtained at an intensity of 400 mol/m2s, which was 0.73 day-1. The increase of PPFD has been shown to increase the content of astaxanthin. The highest astaxanthin content was measured at an intensity of 400 mol/m2s on the 5th day of cultivation, which was 18.97 mg/g. The estimated productivity of astaxanthin showed that cultivation of H. pluvialis with an intensity of 200 mol/m2s resulted in the highest productivity and efficiency of light utilization, which was 28 (mg/L day)/(mmol/m2s) or about 1.28 times higher than the estimated productivity of astaxanthin per light intensity at 400 mol/m2s. The results of this study indicate that Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density (PPFD) can affect biomass acumulation and synthesis of astaxanthin content in H. Pluvialis increases as PPFD increases. text |
