Summary: | Previous studies have been conducted focused on microplastics in the oceans, while studies on the existence of microplastics in Wastewaster Treatment Plant (WWTP) are still limited. This study aims to identify the characterictics of wastewaster regulated in PermenLHK No.68/2016 and the existence of microplastics in domestic wastewaster as influen at communal WWTP with Anaerobic Upflow Filter (AUF) type and PET as support media. In addition, this study aims to design a typical unit to remove or reduce the existence of microplastics. This study was conducted at 4 (four) WWTP locations in Bandung. The results of WWTP AUF wastewater quality showed the removal efficiency of BOD, COD, TSS, Oil and Grease, Ammonia parameters by 73.9 – 94.4%, 44.4 – 93.3%, 58.2 – 74.8%, 30.7 – 98.1% and 9.4 – 58.5%, but most of the pollutant still exceed the quality standards. Amount of microplastics found in the WWTP influent : 598 – 824 MP/L and effluent : 82 – 192 MP/L, with microplastics removal efficiency range is 75.12 – 90.1%. Fiber microplastics is the most common forms found in influent and efluent with percentage 70.2 – 72.9% and 63.4 – 68.8%. Microplastics size of 20 – 100 ?m are found in influent and effluent is 30.3 – 32.7% and 24.5 – 36.1%. Transparent microplastics were found in influent and effluent is 29.9 -33.1% and 36.5 – 67.9%. The most widely identified polymer types of microplastic are PES polymers is 25%, then PP (20%), and PE (15%). The weighting results with Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method showed Subsurface Horizontal Flow Constructed Wetland (HSF-CW) as a choosen alternative of typical unit design in the microplastics parameter allowance. HSF-CW unit cost budget plan is carried out based on Permen PUPR No. 28/2019 for 10-year design is Rp 179.960.530 with Net Present Value (NPV) is Rp 45.940.225,76 which is NPV > 0, thus the development of HSF-CW is economically viable. |
