INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/61278 Stone column is one type of soil improvement method that can be applied to clay soil or sand soil. Stone column installation can increase lateral resistance and stiffness of the surrounding soil and can mitigate liquefaction. This study aims to determine the increase in lateral resistance and stiffness of the surrounding soil due to the installation of stone columns and their effect on the behavior of stone columns in mitigating liquefaction in sandy soils. The research will be conducted with the help of PLAXIS 2D and FLAC 2D software. The lateral resistance parameter is described by the coefficient of lateral soil pressure. The installation of another stone column adjacent to it affects the increase in lateral resistance and stiffness of the surrounding soil. The coefficient of lateral pressure and stiffness of the surrounding soil increases along with the increase in lateral expansion in the form of the application of prescribed displacement to the stone column. This shows that the confining pressure has increased. The coefficient of lateral pressure and stiffness of the surrounding soil in the modeling of other adjacent stone column installations is greater than the modeling of single stone column installation. This shows that the stress that occurs in the surrounding soil is influenced by the installation of other adjacent stone columns. The stone column installation is able to reduce the pore pressure ratio. The variation of the distance applied in the stone column installation affects the ability of the stone column to reduce the pore pressure ratio. The distance applied to the stone column installation is getting smaller, the smaller the pore pressure ratio will be. The resulting pore pressure ratio in modeling by considering the effect of increasing lateral resistance and stiffness of the surrounding soil is smaller than the modeling without considering the effect of increasing lateral resistance and stiffness of the surrounding soil. Based on this, the installation of stone columns has proven to be effective in mitigating liquefaction in sandy soils. text
