Geographical name not only represents the identity of geographic feature but also preserves cultural heritage of a nation in question. Names of geographic features are therefore necessary to be collected to be formally defined and published. In the scope of this research’s case study area, which is Gili Balu Islands in Regency of Western Sumbawa, National Gazetteer and SINAR, a web application for supporting providence of geographical names, only contain names, type of geographic feature, coordinate, and administrative area of eight small islands in the region, This is not in accordance with Government Decree number 2 of 2021. Therefore, it is necessary to initiate providence of geographical names in the region. On the other hand, there is a necessity to develop procedure and methodology for collecting geographic names, particularly in the scope of development of national standard on geographical names. In this research, snowball sampling and purposive sampling methods were utilised, as well as triangulation method for validating the collected data by collecting information from 30 random samples. Data collection was performed by means semi-structured interview. The outputs of this research is the required information concerning geographical names in accordance with Government Decree numer 2 of 2021, which is a result of the implementation of the above mention methodology on its data collection. Verification of the geographical names was done in collaboration with Geospatial Information Agency. Furthermore, the methodology that was applied in this research was proven to effectively collect and verify geograpical names of small islands in Gili Balu Islands.
