Description
Summary:Indonesia is located around the ring of fire. Ring of fire forms volcanoes to become a mountain range along the island of Sumatra, Java, Nusa Tenggara, to Sulawesi. Zeolite is formed in fine-grained tuff pyroclastic rocks that undergo diagenesis and alteration. Zeolite based on the type of alteration is included in the propylytic alteration characterized by the color of greenish sediment. Although in general the formation of zeolite in Indonesia does not differ much in each region, there are differences in the geochemical characteristics of zeolite deposits in certain areas such as in Cikembar. Therefore, this study aims to identify the geochemical characteristics of zeolite deposits in Cikembar area, Sukabumi Regency, West Java. The study is conducted by analyzing data that have been tested in the laboratory. The analysis is X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and cation exchange capacity (CEC). The results of XRD analysis showed that Cikembar zeolite samples were mordenite type. There are also silicate, metal, and clay minerals. In addition, the results of the XRF analysis showed that there is a dominant mineral, SiO2 with a level of 73.04% while the LOI level is 5.69%. Thus, the combination of field and laboratory data indicates that the rocks of Cikembar zeolite origin have a riolytic tufa composition. CEC value plays an important role in determining the quality of a zeolite. The results of KTK analysis showed that zeolite Cikembar zeolite samples can store 68.8 meq in 100 grams of zeolite. This value will be compared to the quality standard applicable in Indonesia.
