Description
Summary:Metropolitan cities often experience problems related to waste caused by improper waste management. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the City of Bandung experienced a significant increase in the volume of waste. Overall, the largest waste contributor was residential or household waste. Due to Sarimukti Landfill capacity limit, better waste management was needed. For this reason, data related to the condition of waste, especially those generated from settlements, are needed, such as data on generation, composition, and characteristics of waste. One of the sub-districts in Bandung City which is dominated by residential areas is Sukasari Sub-district. Until now, there is no data related to solid waste, especially household waste in Sukasari Sub-district, so there are obstacles in efforts to determine management to further processing for waste produced in the sub-district. The purpose of this study is to determine the generation, composition, characteristics, and recommend waste management following the existing. The research was conducted in Sukasari Sub-district through field research. The collected data will be analyzed descriptively and then evaluated. Collecting method based on SNI 19-3964-1994, with a total sample of 48 households conducted for 8 (eight) days. The generation of household waste in Sukasari Sub-district is 0.284 kg/person/day and 3.36 liters/person/day with the composition of household waste consisting of food waste, plastic, paper, hazardous, textiles, rubber, metal, glass, garden waste, and other waste in the form of residue with the dominant waste being food waste (58,801%). The respective moisture content, volatile content, ash content, fixed carbon, and calorific value of waste are 31%, 62,1%, 11,54%, 0.69%, and 5028,44 Kcal/kg. The recommendation for household waste management is community-based waste management, which refers to the General Guidelines for the 3R settlements and is adjusted to the RI Goverment Regulation No. 81 of 2012 and Bandung City Regulation No. 9 of 2018 concerning Waste Management.
