The growth of urban areas and the integration of rural and urban areas have led to an increasing demand for food self-sufficiency, especially through the utilization of peri-urban areas. As competition increases between agricultural and non-agricultural needs (particularly with regard to land), a sustainable approach to agriculture is needed. This approach is expected to produce food products whilst concurrently provide ecosystem services to the surrounding community. In this regard, this study was conducted to examine the suitability of a certain sustainable agricultural system, which in this case is represented by permaculture, in peri-urban areas in fulfilling their role as food providers and regenerative agriculture system. The information obtained is used as the basis for designing approaches in formulating strategies for designing and implementing permaculture systems in the future. This research was conducted at Kebun Belajar Tunas Nusa, located in Rancaekek Wetan sub-district, Rancaekek District, Bandung Regency, West Java. The suitability of the 12 basic permaculture concepts of this agricultural system is then assessed based on the PCIV aspects (Principles, Criteria, Indicators, Verifiers). The data used for the PCIV analysis is the economic profile (potential yields and economic gain), ecological (air, soil, and water quality) and social profiles of the community around the Kebon Belajar location. The results of this study indicate that aspects related to permaculture that have not been met are the aspects of the pH of the paddy soil which are still below neutral standards, the C/N content in the soil and the heavy metal content in the soil and water. Thus, recommendations for increasing the benefits of Learning Gardens consist of short-term and long-term solutions.
