However, the problem of land scarcities causes the need for agricultural system that can increase the availability of vegetables in Indonesia to meet community needs. The hydroponic cultivation method is a solution that can be applied because it provides full control in the supervision of the system, especially the nutrients provided and has relatively high productivity. Hydroponic optimization can be conducted through a combination of growth medium and the right composition of nutrient solutions to maintain the growth of mustard. The purpose of this study was to determine the best combination of growth medium and nutritional composition for the growth of mustard plants and determine the best alternative combination that can support the growth of green mustard by considering sustainability and environmental friendly aspects. The research was conducted in February-May 2021 in Hutauruk, Sipoholon, North Tapanuli, and North Sumatera. Treatments consist of 6 combinations, 2 types of growth medium (rockwool and hidroton) with 3 types of nutrition composition, 100% AB mix, 75% AB mix : 25% LOF, and 50% AB mix : 50% POC. Each combinations repeated 4 times. Measurement of plant growth conducted by measuring plant height, number of leaves, and leaf area using tools while measurement of wet biomass were carried out using digital scale. The results of statistical tests using ANOVA and LSD showed there were significant differences of plant height, number of leaves, and wet biomass occurring at 21 DAP (Days After Planting) while the leaf area parameter occurring at 7 DAP and 21 DAP. The combination of rockwool with 100% AB mix gives the best results for the growth of green mustard. The combination of hydroton and the nutritional composition of 75% AB mix : 25% LOF was not significantly different from the best treatment for each parameter therefore it could be used as an alternative to the combination of rockwool with a nutritional composition of 100% AB mix. text |
