Description
Summary:Waste management problem is often encountered in big cities in Indonesia. Population growth is one of the factors that influence the increase of waste generation. The significant increase of waste generation occurred in South Tangerang, which has the highest population growth in Banten Province. There are several waste problems in South Tangerang. These problems arise from upstream in the source of waste generation to the downstream in the final waste disposal. This study aims to identify the optimization of waste management through an integrated sustainable waste management framework. This framework was chosen due to taking into account various dimensions such as environmental and the governance dimension. This framework is often found in developing countries, such as Lahore, Pakistan and Malang, Indonesia. Data collection in this study was conducted by distributing questionnaires to 100 residents of South Tangerang, observing some of waste infrastructure, interviews with key informant of waste management in South Tangerang, and literature studies. The analysis used in this research is descriptive quantitative statistical analysis and qualitative analysis that is used to find out how waste management in South Tangerang is based on an integrated sustainable waste management framework. Another analysis used in this study is AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process). This analysis is used to determine the factors that are considered important in waste management. The results of this study indicate that several components of integrated sustainable waste management in South Tangerang are not optimal. The condition of environmental and technical dimensions of waste management in South Tangerang is still low, while social and government dimensions are in the medium category. This study concludes that to optimize waste management with integrated sustainable waste management framework in South Tangerang the factors that need to be intervened are recycling rate, financial sustainability as well as inclusivity of provider and user. The results of this study could be used for stakeholders to understand what needs to be intervened in waste management based on integrated sustainable waste management.
