Summary: | Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the world had suffered a global economic relapse. In the UK, this
relapse had resulted in a worse global recession than the Great Recession. Businesses in a wide range
of industries have been seriously impacted due to the pandemic, and policymakers are actively working
on measures to mitigate the economic downturn.
This study focuses on HGFs because they are among the most critical players in the economy because
of their ability to innovate, internationalize, and create jobs. In addition, HGFs in Hull is the subject of
this study. Since Hull is a peripheral region, the implications of this study may be relevant to
policymakers in other peripheral regions.
So, using qualitative research methods, this study investigates the effect of COVID-19 on HGFs in Hull.
Furthermore, this study looks at the various impacts of HGFs across various industries, the strategies
they utilized to deal with the challenges posed by COVID-19 in the business environment, and their
perspectives on public and private sector policy interventions.
As a result, COVID-19's effects are found to be diverse across industries. COVID-19 also brought with
it not only new challenges but also new enthusiasm for HGFs to continue to expand in the future.
Finally, HGFs use business agility in their strategies when dealing with COVID-19.
The findings of this study are expected to aid other businesses in thriving after the pandemic and serve
as a guide for policymakers in developing policies that could help encourage business development.
This research can also provide empirical evidence about the effect of a recessionary period on HGFs in
peripheral regions for academics. |
